Catlins Surf School operates from the Curio Bay Campground & Store, South Catlins. Here you will find the optimal conditions for surfing in NZ – and surfers do come from far away surf the waves here.

It is also a friendly sandy bottom beach perfectly safe for surfing. We supply everything you need for learning to surf from all types of quality warm male and female wetsuits to accessories. Hot showers and shop close nearby.
Boards and surfing equipment hire Our surf boards for beginners surfing lessons are imported from Australia. These boards are made from soft foam which are stable, safe and easy to learn to surf on. We also rent all types of longboards, shortboards, fun boards, SUP (stand up paddle) and have lots of rental wetsuits & boogie boards available.
Surf with the real locals If you are lucky during your surfing lesson we might be joined by Sammy, the friendly local sea lion, or some of the resident pod of 40 Hector's Dolphins who live in this area. They love surfing waves with us too.
